Care More

When I reflect on the last 10 years, one question I ask myself is: why were we the ones to build this? We were just students. We had way fewer resources than big companies. If they had focused on this problem, they could have done it

I still remember how reluctant I was to move over to Facebook from Myspace – and only did so because my friends had jumped ship, created a fake account and started posting on Facebook as me.

Facebook’s competitors – Myspace, Friendster, even Google+ shared similar technology, some a more impressive social graph and Google definitely had more money.

At one point, social networks were almost a commodity – with one showing little advantage over another.

So how did Facebook prevail?

In the words of founder Mark Zuckerberg:

The only answer I can think of is: we just cared more.

Happy 10th Birthday Facebook
