“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The brilliance of The Declaration of Independence isn’t that it merely documented the ills of a repressive government the United States should be free of.

Its that the founding fathers, instead of merely separating the US from the problem, defined an ideal for a freed people to run towards.

This ideal would be drawn upon time and time again by the tribe of the United States whenever they found themselves at a crossroads amongst themselves: perhaps most famously becoming the backbone of both Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and Martin Luther King Jnr’s “I have a dream” speech.

It is a testimony to the vision of the founding fathers that whenever the identity of the tribe has been in question, their original vision continued and continues to serve and guide the decision making of leaders.

Every tribe is looking to be led somewhere.
